Chevy, Buick and GMC Fuel Gauge Problem

How much does it cost to fix a gas gauge for a Buick Century 2001 model??

ProTech:
Are we talking the gauge itself, or the fuel level sensor that controls the gauge?

The gauge itself.

To replace the gauge you have to replace the entire instrument cluster assembly. That can only be done at a dealership, and is usually around $400 with parts and labor.

I’m looking to buy this Buick Century for $2000 and they said the gas gauge is broke and the cruise control doesnt work i blue booked the car and it said it is worth between 1950 and 3300 so need to see if i am getting it for what it is worth.

I understand.

Need to see if the car is worth $2000 that they were asking for.

That’s up to you.

1998 Chevy Malibu

I have a 1998 Chevy Malibu, installed a new battery and after that the gas gauge does not work, checked all the fuses and they are all ok, what could this be.

You probably touched something with one of the battery cables or caused a short for a split second, and that took out the gas gauge. Unfortunately there is no way to fix it without replacing the entire instrument cluster.

I have one more question I have a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup with a 5.3 liter When I start my pickup it wants to hesitate when in gear or when i take off with it and then it goes away after i drive it for about 30 seconds, it seems like it is acts up more when the pickup it parked on a slope like in my driveway. When it is idling it runs fine.

A couple things to check….look to see if the fuel pressure regulator is leaking, that would cause a problem like you describe. Also, if the intake gasket has a vacuum leak, it cause the same issue, but go away after the truck has warmed up a few minutes. Either of those two things can cause the issue you’re having with your GMC Sierra.

Thank you for your advice.

Glad to help.
