1999 Chevrolet Silverado Engine Light Code P0336

I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500 series, 5.3. Code reads p0336 crankshaft sensor. Have replaced sensor 3 times and will not start. Put old sensor in and start.

ProTech:
When you replace the Crankshaft Sensor, you need to do a ‘crankshaft variation relearn’ with a scanner, or you will still have problems.

How would i do that?

You would either need a scanner like used at the dealership, or bring your truck to the dealership and have it done for you.

The truck has coil packs does that matter.

No, that makes no difference at all.

Ok thank you for your time. Have a good evening.

Distributor

Hi.Can the pickup coil inside the distributor cause my c1500 v6 to stumble upon acceleration? I’ve eliminated other components with no luck. It’s a stubborn problem. The current ignition timing is perfect but I still have the stumbling.

Yes, the pickup coil can cause that symptom but a lot of other things can as well. Can you tell me what you’ve eliminated and how?

Yes…I replaced the following: spark plug wires and plugs, new cap and rotor, new air filter, new anti knock sensor, new throttle position sensor, and a new ignition module within the distributor.

Have you done a fuel pressure check? Low fuel pressure or lack of volume from a bad pump or clogged filter can also cause a stumble condition.

I have not done a fuel pressure check but I did replace the fuel filter as well. I also do not have any check engine conditions on it.

Did you try and blow through the fuel filter after you replaced it? It was excessively clogged, you can bet the pump is on it’s way out now after being able to flow freely through a new filter.

Dash Warning Light On

I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 4×4 and I have a dash light on

ProTech:
Ok, what light is it?

It is yellow and I think it is an engine light it’s yellow.

If it is shaped like an engine, then yes it is the Check Engine Light that is on. That means you have a trouble code stored in the computer because there is a problem.

I’m not quite sure of that is exactly what it os but it’s yellow and has what looks like two caps on it. So is that an engine symbol. -Mary

Yeah, I’m not sure I know what you mean. If you have the owner’s manual, it can tell you what each dash light is…then maybe I can help you here. Since I can’t see through the computer, it’s hard for me to know what light you’re talking about. You’ve obviously got a problem with the truck, so I would recommend getting it checked out.

Nope I don’t. I checked in my truck. But I will take it to get it checked out. Thank you.
