1998 Chevrolet Silverado Stalls When Hitting Brakes

When i apply the brake it kills the motor on my 1998 Chevy Silverado 5.7 liter .i just changed the gas tank, fuel pump, and, fuel filter. Truck runs great until you apply brake.

Mechanic JK:
Does your truck die out as soon as you touch the brake pedal, or does it die out as you coming to a stop and sitting at idle?

Only when you press hard on brake on both stopping and idling.

Okay. Do you have a check engine light on? If so, have you had computers can for codes?

No Check engine light.

All right. You may have a common problem of the throttle body and bore full of carbon buildup. This causes rough idle or stalling when coming to a stop or when sitting at idle. You can easily clean this out yourself by using a can of carb cleaner or break clean purchased at any parts store. I would do that first.

OK. Thank you.

1998 Chevy Venture van

The windshield wipers go to the up position after they are shut off.

Do the wipers on your venture Van go all the way up or about halfway up?

All the way up.

Okay. This sounds like a fairly common problem of a tab being bent over so that the park mechanism in the wiper motor does not stop in the proper position. This usually causes the wiper arms to go up about halfway instead of parking all the way down. Do the wipers work normally when they’re on?

okay i replaced the park mechanism and broke off the tab the first time around. the wipers do not work in a normal fashion. must turn onto high to get them to come on then after it cycles, it can then be turned down to low. If you use intermittent setting wipers will then stop where they are at. car must be shut off, wiper setting turned to the off position, then start the car, wipers will then go back to the up position!

You need to start from the beginning and put the park mechanism back to its resting position, then adjust it to within 2-3 mm of the tab, then get the wiper arms adjusted to the park position.

2004 Chevy Silverado

Hi, I have a 2004 Silverado crew cab 4×4 had bad put some bad gas in it truck ended up running real bad put new gas from pumps about 3 tanks threw it and injector cleaner in now it starts better but still only has half the power and very little gas pedal or it just back fires and slows down.

A few of the fuel injectors may be plugged and need to be replaced. You could also have damaged the fuel pump. Start by checking fuel pressure. Depending on how much of the bad gas you burned, that could have damaged the sprak plugs or even plugged the catalytic converter.
