96 Bonneville transmission wont move reverse

      I have a 96 Bonneville, 4 speed auto transmission that when shifted into reverse, no movement but I hear massive rattling from underneath. It shifts into 1,2 or 3 but won’t go over 25 mph, same rattling. Checked shifter lever and it appears to be moving fine. I heard it could be a park rod, but when off if I shift it into neutral, it does roll. Any thoughts as to whats wrong?

      Yes, you have a major internal transmission failure. Something is broke and there is most likely metal throughout the trans. You are going to need an ovehaul or a new unit.
