Heater is not warming up like normal, and fan motor seems to be running louder at times. The temp. needle seems to to be rising at times ,then returning to normal.

REPLY: Not a lot of information to go on here, but first you need to diagnose if the truck is overheating or not getting hot at all…also need to determine if there is a blower motor problem as well.

I have a 2004 Silverado 5.3 z71. when I have the air flowing I hear the ac compressor kick on even if i don’t have the ac on and the heater on too. Someone told me that the compressor will cycle if it is on recirc. I know it comes on with the defroster but does it also always come on if the recirc is engaged?

The A/C compressor can come on at any time on newer vehicles. The control module will cycle it when needed due to manual positioning of the control head, defrost mode, or when on recirculate to remove moisture from the air. What you’re experiencing is a normal condition.

Yes, more info would be helpful.
Can you confirm the A/C compressor is engaged when you turn on the air?
Do you know how much Freon is in the system right now? It is not overfull now, is it?

Heat blows great from middle vent but defrost vent & floor vent are not working.

ould be a heater control head, or a mode actuator in the dash. You’d have to get this diagnosed by a technician, as there are quite a few electrical tests that need to be done to figure it out.

I have an automatic climate control. There is good air flow from the defroster and floor vents but no air flow from the dash vents. I have disconnected the neg. battery cable and removed the HVAC B and HVAC 1 fuses and still no dash air flow.

RE: Sounds like you may have a problem with the mode door actuator. This is what controls the air flow direction.

Thanks for your reply to my question. Do you have any idea where the mode door actuator for the dash vents is?

RE: The mode door actuator on you Chevy Trailblazer is located under the drivers side of the dash, to the right of the steering column, on the side of the HVAC case. There is also another actuator there, so a picture is best to get the right one. You can get a picture at the Chevy dealer parts department when you get a new actuator. Again, this is the most probable cause, but some circuit testing should be done to confirm it is your problem.

Are you sure the freon charge is correct? It is almost impossible to know unless you have drained and recharged the system. You need to hook up pressure gauges and see what they are showing. If the high side is too high and the low side is too low, then you have a plugged orifice tube.

Depending on the model and year of your vehicle, the A/C could be a variable rate compressor, and that could have a problem internally.

A humid musty smell can mean the evaporator drain is plugged and not letting the water drain away. This causes mold in the evaporator case and will stink.

2015 Malibu keeps killing batteries. My check engine light is always on. Replace alternator and two batteries. OBD said it was a sensor on the negative cable, but that didn’t work either. Each repair and it is fine for a couple days, then dead again. I have to jump it to go anywhere.
