I have a 2001 grand am with the 3.4 v6. my wife bought the car in 2006 and said it has allways had this problem??? the car runs perfect but when you get it on the freeway is starts bucking at 75+mph??? i noticed by accident when i was driving in 3rd that it bucks at 55mph??? my brother in law brought home the GM tech two from work and we drove it around to check it out. It showed multiple misfires when it starts bucking on all cylinders. the cam and crank sensors are checking out ok. i have replaced the fuel filter, fuel reg., wires plugs, and we just replaced the Whole ignition rack to include all three ignition coils. the problem still presists???
      Thanks, Lane

Could be fuel injectors that are cutting out, or even a fuel delivery problem. I’d recommend a fuel pressure check, and if possible an injector balance test. Do this when hot and cold to see if there is a difference. If you’ve replace the ignition module and/or coils, along with plugs and wires, that really eliminates any chance of an ignition problem, so I’d concentrate on fuel/injectors. You might also want to try a compression check just to make sure that’s in order. One more thing to check would be for a plugged exhaust or catalytic converter. Lots of possibilities, hope you can find it!

I had the same problem code p0300 misfire code on my Pontiac. They found it was just bad spark plugs and ignition coils. They did a complete tuneup and the car is fixed. No more check engine light.

Usually we need a little more information than that to be able to help you. Such as, is the check engine light on? have any other repairs or modifications been done recently?

Otherwise, for your problem, check for vacuum leaks, see if the throttle blade is stuck, check the throttle position sensor.

Ya the engine light is on. Someone says there is an idle screw but I’m not sure if there is. I’m not familiar with this new of a car.

There is no idle screw for your vehicle. You should get the car scanned and see what trouble code is stored, as that will help in diagnosis.

Check the crank sensor, and the wiring harness for chaffing. Could be a faulty temp sensor, too. If you have a scanner, watch the live data and watch to see what falls off at the time of the stalling. That will pinpoint the problem.

Check fuel pressure. If it is not the crank sensor, fuel pressure may be dropping, then hitting gas comes back up. There are also wires from crank sensor that rub through near the A/C compressor.
