I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado. The check engine came on and I had a service dept. run diagnostics. It came back that I need to replace my catalytic converter . Can I continue to drive the truck without replacing the converter?

Yes, you can still driver the truck. The light will stay on and you wont be able to pass your state emissions or smog test if that is required in your area with this condition. If the truck seems to run OK, then the codes just means that the catalytic converter is not as efficient as it should be. If you do get it replaced in the future, just be careful since a bad oxygen sensor can also give a converter code.

Most of the time on Chevy trucks a bad catalytic converter will also give a condition of loss of power when accelerating. If you do not have this condition, be sure to have the O2 sensors checked first.
