Ohmmeter

It may sound like something only a tech-geek could love, these simple devices read resistance in electrical circuits, which can basically tell you if many parts and sensors are functioning properly or not.

The ohmmeter function is one of the many tests you can do with a digital volt/ohm meter- or DVOM. Basically when the circuit you are testing is off, connect each lead of the DVOM to either side of the component being tested.

Zero (0)  ohms mean low resistance- complete circuit, high ohms or infinite means an open circuit. With sensors, you would need a chart to determine what is the proper resistance. Handier than an iPhone, a good rule of thumb is, an ohmmeter belongs in your toolbox to be able to do even the most basic testing on today’s cars and trucks.
