I am Aurora poor, I have two 1995s and a 1998. The 1998 has a code P1535- high side temp sensor high voltage. where is this sensor located? The car says that it has a cooling issue, the fans do not come on when they should, after a run and engine off.

When the temp gauge hits 220, the engine, hit with a heat sensor gun reads 205 and evidence of a head gasket leak not present. The car can be drove down the freeway at 70 MPH and will not go over 200 degrees, but drive in stop and go traffic and it will go up in four blocks, same with extended idle.
      Any ideas?

REPLY: First off, the code P1535 is for the A/C high side temp, so that has absolutely NOTHING to do with your overheating issue. How did you come about that there is no evidence of a head gasket problem? Those engines were notorious for head problems among other issues. If the fans aren’t coming on like they should, you should check into that as well. There’s plenty of electrical problems with the Aurora’s as well. If you’ve got a scanner, which I’m assuming you do since you have the other code, try and command the fans on manually. Try to eliminate components that you know are good or that test good. With the car overheating on a short drive, or extended idling, that tells me you have at least one thing wrong with the cooling system. The fans not working could be it, but there could also be more trouble to come. If you’ve gotten the car excessively hot, you’ve surely got a possibility of a head gasket problem. Try a cylinder leakdown test, or at the very least, pressure test the cooling system.

REPLY: did a compression/ leak down test, sniff test of the bottle, nothing in the coolant, compression holds at 145 per cylinder. fans check fine, code tells me that the high side temp sensor is out of parameters, where is it located?

REPLY: Ok, once again, the code you have, P1535 is for the Air Conditioning high side temperature sensor. This has NOTHING to do with why the car may or may not be running hot. It is ONLY for the air conditioning system. If you want to change the sensor anyway, it is located on the high side pressure hose.

Back to the overheating. Aurora’s are known to run hot so I guess I should ask you what temp the car is running at. You say it won’t get over 200 at highway speeds, but runs hot when driven locally or sitting and idling. How hot does it get?

You also say now that the fans check fine, but in your first post you say they aren’t coming on when they are supposed to? Do you know when the fans are supposed to come on? Low speed will kick on at roughly 225 degrees, and high speed will not come on until almost 255-270. These cars normally run warm in city and local driving.

If it is actually overheating, there is only one of two things that it will be on the crap Northstar engines. A head gasket issue or a clogged radiator.
      Have a great day!

REPLY: P1535 is a code, I want to repair the issue with this code in this area and then move on. That is why I keep asking for the sensor location. Do you know where the sensors are located?

I didn’t say the P1535 isn’t a code, I said it was a code for the air conditioning system! And if you read the first paragraph of my previous post, I told you where the sensor is located if you wanted to change it anyway!
